Description: A patch of earth can make a significant contribution toward sustaining biodiversity. Planting for New Mexico, this landscape explores the idea of a new nature a hybrid of the wild and the cultivated for a new climate. The concept of interlocking layers of compatible plant species is intended to mimic native plant communities on a disturbed site. These designed plant communities create an environment that is reflective of natural systems. Zooming in to the micro to support many insect species provides habitat that increases biodiversity and greater ecological function. This property incorporates stormwater infrastructure that features a courtyard oasis, a slope planting, and a meadow matrix in a gravel garden that looks beyond the arroyo to a horse ranch and the Sandias.

4. Legacy European Garden

Address: 3 Red Tail Hawk Road
Owners: Marc and Linda Davidson
Garden Type or Features:

The following artists will be at this garden:
TBD

Description: David is 28-year experienced Placitas gardener and SEMG since 2022.

The house was designed by Linda and constructed in 2003-4 of rostra and sits on a ridge with great views!  Because it is on a ridge in Placitas, the existing soil is quite poor, mostly rocks gravel, and sand.  They moved here from the Village of Placitas which has much more fertile soil and greater precipitation. Marc grew up as a 4-H kid in Albuquerque’s South Valley, also with fertile soil and ready water supplies.  The Overlook property location is quite steep on both sides of the ridge, so our first concern was to secure the construction soil and retain the integrity of the extreme slope.  They started with natives and slowly built up to other plants and trees through the subsequent years.   David and Linda’s interests/studies revolve around vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and landscaping.
