Description:
Transitions describe Paul Kenderdine’s intentional design aesthetic for his family’s newly occupied home landscape. The PWKI owner has been designing and constructing unique homes in the greater Albuquerque area for over 30 years.
Paul’s design transitions are evident in the gradual color change of the stone landscaping in the front – from light grey to rust. The trees bordering the driveway and the tall grasses in the front of the home offer a transition to the refined home architecture.
The interior of the home provides access and stunning views of multiple exterior refined garden spaces built to enjoy the surrounding hillside scenery. The refined back garden is hidden from neighboring views by a clever landscape technique in construction. The rose shrubs in the back patio are a refined plant addition, but they are only seen from the inside of the house or while on the patio. Paul intentionally cut the back patio wall into the east ridge to conceal the roses and the patio furniture from far off neighboring views. This provides both privacy to the owners and an uninterrupted natural view of the home from the outside.
An interior north balcony window allows one to enjoy both a refined small flower garden in the foreground and a far-reaching view of the natural landscape in the background.
The pool deck, accessible from the lower level of the home, is elevated above the sloped grade of the land. The deck is disguised from neighboring views by strategically placed planter box walls.
A reverse infinity water-fall cascades into a front deck pond. The surrounding protected area is a relaxing spot for family and friends to gather and enjoy spectacular sunsets.
Paul designed his steeply sloped property per the Anasazi Trails requirement of diverting and retaining water flow within to prevent erosion of downhill properties.
