The Vine Garden
This garden showcases beautiful vines, both grape and Virginia creeper, off the front and back entrance portals and established turf and a variety of planting beds along with an extraordinary south view of the Sandia Mountains from the back yard.
The owners have lived in this Placitas adobe residence for close to 30 years and have done all landscaping, terracing, and planting using their own design and labor. The owners have maintained the native junipers and pinons around their garden landscape and have only pruned the lower branches to allow room for walking paths and visibility. The junipers provide enough shelter for birds and nesting areas for small mammals. The owners have achieved wildlife certification for their back yard habitat from the National Wildlife Federation. The garden beds are planted with bulbs, flowering perennials, ground cover and native shrubs, which provide seed, flowers and protection for pollinators. The terraces create an expansive elevated area for the pool lounging area and surrounding landscape. If the family is not using the swimming pool area, they are enjoying playing ball and other games in the cool turf areas during warm weather.
