2018 Garden #6

“The Crossroads Garden”

This meticulously maintained corner property, bordered by Camino Barranca and Calle Corvo, is surrounded by large junipers, pinons and cholla.   The owner strategically transplanted cholla and favorably nurtured small pinons growing in the one-seed juniper trees to create this high desert western forest landscape.  A weathered wood wagon sits among the conifers and cacti to the west side of the home.  This wagon serves as a perfect prop for decorative holiday lights.  Off the driveway enter the courtyard through the contemporary designed steel double entry gate.  The focal point of the front courtyard garden is a large fountain surrounded by animal sculptures and succulents planted nearby.

The owners have captured a cool oasis feel in the landscape design of the front entry portion of their courtyard and a creatively-decorated minimalist desert landscape in the back or southeast part of the courtyard.  After exploring the inner courtyard gardens,  return to the driveway and walk the pathway along the exterior courtyard wall.  Take in the the open landscape and surrounding mesa and mountain views.

This garden has several well-designed hardscaped areas, sculptural cacti plantings, a variety of trees and shrubs mixed in with whimsical touches of outdoor art.
